History

In 1974, noticing a lack of convenient higher education in Southern Oklahoma, the Oklahoma State Legislature created the Ardmore Higher Education Center. With originally only ten programs and 110 students, the program quickly grew and was made permanent in 1977 by a state statute. Since the ‘70s our center has grown rapidly and at its peak offered 300 courses to 1,800 students each semester.

Staff

Everyone at UCSO has one common goal: help our students succeed. Whether it is our expert instructors or our friendly advisors, we are all here to make sure you are able to achieve your dreams. Our instructors have experience in the field they teach and bring that experience into the classroom for a unique real-world education.

Board of Trustees

Established in 1985, our Board of Trustees is appointed by the governor and each serves a nine-year term. Terms are renewable at the governor’s discretion. The Board of Trustees manages funds for the university, negotiates agreements with other universities for degrees, and selects UCSO’s CEO – now president. The Board meets bi-monthly and may call special meetings, as needed.

The University Center Board of Trustees is authorized by statute to submit a budget to the Oklahoma State Regents; administer and oversee the management of funds; negotiate agreements with universities/colleges for courses; select the CEO who, in turn, coordinates programs and services, and hires/manages staff; and acquire and take title to real and personal property.

The University Center Board of Trustees meets bi-monthly for its regular meeting and may call special meetings with 48-hour advance notification.

Health, Science, and Math Center

Our new, state-of-the-art building covers 49,000 square feet and includes four science laboratories, two nursing skills laboratories, and numerous multimedia and interactive television classrooms.

This facility was built on property generously provided through private funding. Our capital campaign is an ongoing effort to maintain and advance our property to provide the best in education and practical experience to our students.

Capital Campaign

The University Center of Southern Oklahoma is poised for the next phase of campus expansion. More classrooms, more programs, more opportunities. To kick off the new capital campaign, the UC is presenting an exciting, unique, adrenaline-fueled, dare-to-be- great opportunity to start the campaign. We are offering the whole community the chance to go OVER THE EDGE!

The Ardmore Institute of Health has provided us with a community grant to construct a mile long walking trails being designed to highlight the beauty of our Cross Timbers landscape with a spectacular view of the Arbuckle Mountains to our North. Planning already has begun and work should begin this summer.
